Effortless Holiday Decor Storage: Insights from Professional Organizers

As the holiday season draws to a close, your decorations now await their journey back to storage. To ensure a stress-free and organized process, we at CMG Organizing share our tips for efficiently packing away your holiday décor.

1. Categorize and Label:

Begin by categorizing your decorations based on themes or types. We recommend separating ornaments, lights (indoor and outdoor), festive figurines, tree skirt with stockings, etc and organizing them into clear categories, making the packing and unpacking a smooth process. Label storage containers accordingly to easily identify their contents when the next holiday season arrives.

2. Invest in Quality Storage Containers:

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of using high-quality storage containers for holiday décor. Opt for durable, airtight containers to protect delicate ornaments and prevent damage from moisture or pests. Transparent containers allow for quick visual identification, saving you time when searching for specific items.

3. Wrap Fragile Items Carefully:

Delicate ornaments and decorations require special attention during storage. Use bubble wrap, tissue paper, or specialized storage compartments to protect fragile items. We often recommend wrapping delicate pieces individually to prevent scratches and breakage.

4. Create a Dedicated Storage Area:

Designate a specific area in your home for holiday décor storage. This could be a section of your attic, basement, or if you live in California, most likely a garage or a closet. We recommend keeping holiday decorations separate from everyday items to maintain organization and make the retrieval process smoother next year.

5.     Holiday related kitchen items:

Don’t forget to designate a specific home for your holiday-related platters, fine china and cookie cutters. We like to store them out of the way, such as a top shelf of your pantry or back in the deep cabinet. Thus, freeing prime real estate for everyday kitchenware.

6. Document Decor Arrangements:

If you are big on tradition, take photos of your decorated spaces before dismantling them. This not only serves as a delightful memory but also helps recreate the same arrangement next year.

A well-organized storage plan ensures that your decorations remain in pristine condition, ready to bring joy and cheer to your home in the seasons to come.
